A video has been posted by Yusuf Abramjee on Twitter today showing a group of men taking part in prayers.

President Ramaphosa has made it clear that such gatherings should not be taking part during the lockdown as it underminds the rules and can have drastic consequences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past few weeks, it has been said by Government officials to not attend large religious gatherings, however, a small minority are choosing to ignore the rules resulting in arrests.

NewsLiteSA reported yesterday that the Cape Town Mosque will be holding Live Broadcast prayers during these difficult times to ensure that religious followers do not put others and themselves at harm from the virus.

“It’s emerged that at least 17 people have been arrested in Pretoria West for allegedly performing prayer in congregation. Under the lockdown regulations, places of worship are closed & congregational prayer suspended. Video: Supplied.” said Radio Islam

What others are saying

I support SAPS, but there are children also at this prayer meeting. We don’t need to shout. We don’t need to comment on a religion. Don’t be brutal in your language use. They are wrong, but just say, “Gentlemen, you are in contradiction of…. you are under arrest.”
