In an address to the nation on Monday night, President Ramaphosa announced a 21-day lockdown.
“We must do everything possible to stop the overall number of infections and delay its spread over the long term. It is imperative that every citizen strictly adhere to the regulations in place. Also the measures I will announce tonight “There is a need to provide our response urgently. If not, the number of infections will soon increase from the current hundreds to thousands in the coming weeks. This is especially important for countries such as SA with high TB, AIDS cases and high levels of poverty.”
“We will therefore be in a state of total restriction from midnight Thursday night for 21 days. It will save thousands of people’s lives. The restriction from March 26 to midnight April 16 will apply.” the President said to the nation.
