WATCH: “Heart-wrenching” as Checkers staff mourn deceased colleague’s from COVID-19

A video has appeared on Twitter today (Monday 27th April) showing staff members from the Bayside Checkers mourning the death of two staff members that allegedly died from COVID-19.

In the video, one employee can be seen on her knees crying out loud at the tragic loss of their colleagues. Other staff members can be seen holding candles in silence as a form of respect to their “comrades”.

The video can be difficult to watch, The reality and pain the virus has caused for the Checkers team is “heart-wrenching”.

Essential workers like these are at the forefront of the virus, without question, they risk their lives by being out in public providing a service to the nation to ensure food is available to buy.

The Shoprite Group released a brief statement this morning (Monday 27th April) confirming the death of an employee :
“Losing one of our own always touches us and it is with great sadness that we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families and co-workers of any employee who passed away.”
