South African’s have welcomed the Level 4 lockdown, it has allowed them to stretch their legs and go for a walk. As many people set out for a walk this morning in Cape Town, a small minority ignored that beaches are prohibited.

In the video posted on Twitter today, you can see surfers riding waves while officers are on the beach waving them down to exit the waters. Last Friday it was reported that over 5,000 people had signed a petition to allow surfers to ride the waters again during the lockdown.

“The Cape Town Metro Council said on inquiry that it could not say when the beaches and other public places would be reopened.”

What others are saying

The video posted by Jerm on Twitter was titled “Cape Town giving government the finger, this morning.”

The comments are split down the middle, several people agreeing with the surfers’ actions with many disagreeing.

Hope law enforcement also enjoyed a legit (pun intended) reason to enjoy the beach and excellent weather a bit!!! To any haters, they took the risk, not you. From me personally, <3 you for lifting my spirits and making poor, scared, law-abiding my-life less miserable.
