A video and photo on social media of a burning conveyor belt at Eskom’s Majuba power station made South Africans wonder Wednesday whether load-shedding is coming soon.
Eskom said in a statement on Wednesday night that the conveyor belt was transporting coal from the railway line to the power station’s coal silos and that the fire did adversely affect the delivery of coal.
Eskom says road transport will be used while the conveyor belt is being repaired.
The Majuba power station in Mpumalanga has 50 days of stored coal stock and Eskom believes the use of road transport and the existing coal supply will be enough to keep Majuba running.
