A young man was injured when he was hit by another car on Sunday after his own vehicle stopped on the N12 between Boksburg and Springs in Gauteng without fuel.
Eben Marx, 21, of Brakpan, says he, his girlfriend and a friend of them were on their way to the girl’s home in Springs in the early hours of the morning after spending the night in Boksburg. Marx and his girlfriend were robbed just before they drove in Boksburg. Both cell phones and the girl’s handbag with R500 cash were stolen.
“We ran to our vehicle and drove off. We wanted to get away from the robbers as far as possible, ”says Marx.
On the N12, on the way to Springs, Marx’s vehicle stopped along the road. He and his friend got out to push the vehicle to the nearest traffic light. The girl stayed in the car.
“I was pushing the vehicle when I saw a white Toyota Corolla approaching behind me. The driver drove carelessly and the car swerved from one lane to another. It was dark in the blink of an eye, ”Marx says.
The suspicious vehicle hit Marx from behind and then immediately drove away. Marx collapsed in the road. Marx’s girlfriend immediately called an ambulance. “When I opened my eyes again, I was in the hospital.”
Some of Marx’s front teeth were knocked out. His hands and face were cut open with glass from the vehicle’s windshield, which was smashed when hitting Marx. He has several bruises on his body.
No further information about the attacker in the suspect vehicle has been released yet.
As Marx and his friend tried to push their vehicle to safety, four police vehicles drove past them without offering any assistance. This contributed to Marx not reporting the matter to the police afterwards.
News of the attack on Marx, meanwhile, has spread like wildfire on social media and numerous security groups on Facebook have warned users following the incident to be careful on this particular road in the evening.
