A bag of orange, white and blue stripes was removed from the shelves of Country Road and Woolworths stores.
A photo of the bag was shared on the social network Reddit before it was distributed on other social media networks. According to social media users, the colors of the carrying case are very reminiscent of the old South African flag.
Woolworths owns Country Road. A spokesperson for the Country Road group told Maroela Media that its Logo Tote range of carrying bags is characterized by a design of five colored stripes and that it is updated with new colors each season.
“The colors that are incorporated into the design each season reflect the Country Road seasonal palette – in this case our summer palette.”
Country Road said he regretted the application of his seasonal pallet.
“We sincerely apologize to all our South African clients. It was never our intention to offend and we decided to no longer sell the item. ”
According to reports, the bag was designed in Australia and removed from the shelves there as well.
