The body of a woman in her 50s was found early Wednesday morning at Voëlklip near Herolds Bay on the southern Cape coast and taken from the water.
An early rescue effort was still underway.
The woman crashed with a red Chevrolet Spark at the cliffs Tuesday night.
Police spokesperson Chris Spies says an eyewitness called police Tuesday evening about the incident.
“It was about 21:45. They could still see the car from Herolds Bay on the precipice with the lights on. The car has a George registration plate. “
He said the car was not going to be recycled because the site was too inhospitable. The car is also not visible in the sea from the abyss.
The car crashed into the abyss at the Voëlklip vantage point. The vantage point overlooks Herolds Bay.
The woman’s body was noticed and retrieved at dawn. Her identity has not yet been revealed.
