A woman was killed Tuesday in front of her mother at a pharmacy in Joubertina, in the Eastern Cape.
Maritza van der Linde, 43, was stabbed several times with a knife and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 61-year-old mother, who works in the pharmacy in the main street of the village, was also stabbed in her lower body.
COL. Eastern Cape police spokesman Sibongile Soci said in a statement that a 46-year-old man arrested for murder and attempted murder after the incident.
According to an informed source, the man is known to both women.
According to the police statement, the man entered the pharmacy and seized Van der Linde. He allegedly ordered the staff to leave the pharmacy and took Van der Linde to her mother in a room at the back of the pharmacy.
“The man apparently pulled out a knife and stabbed the mother in her lower body. The 43-year-old woman was also stabbed several times, ”says Soci.
Police were called and the man was arrested at 9:05 p.m. Police are investigating the case.
