The champagne bottles cannot be popped on Friday, however, some major changes like going for a walk or ordering a takeaway is in store for South Africans.
Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma addressed the nation on Thursday, providing the latest guidelines. Level 4 is a little more relaxed, however, the pandemic is still active and citizens must abide by the rules to prevent further infections and flatten the curve.
What has changed…
Let’s take a look at what is and is not allowed when the lockdown is phased to Level 4 on the 1st May 2020.
Walking
You may walk, run and cycle within a 5 km radius of your home. You may only do this between 06:00 and 09:00 in the morning. It may not be organized sports or organized groups.
Takeaway is on the menu
The hours that fast food can be made for delivery are shortened from 09:00 to 19:00 (Saturday is said to 20:00). Fast food and hot may only be delivered, not to be bought at restaurants. Restaurants may still not be open for dining.
Cigarettes… No! The ban remains in effect
The government reversed and decided the sale of cigarettes, e-cigarettes and any tobacco products is still not allowed under Level 4. Reasons cited include weakening people’s lungs and counteracting social distancing.
Alcohol remains off-limits
The ban on the sale of alcohol remains in effect. People who produce their own alcohol may do so, but may not give it away or sell it.
No sneaking off in the night
In accordance with an evening clock rule, only people with a permit may leave their homes after 20:00 or before 05:00.
Funerals/Burials remain limited
You must obtain permission from the police station to attend a funeral and only close relatives may attend a funeral. You must have a death certificate with you when you go to a funeral.
One-off travel between provinces allowed
People may move from the province where they currently are, to their home or the province in which they work. This is to cater for people who went home or stayed with family members before the restriction, but who want to return to the province where they work or to their own home. It’s a one-off movement – people may not move back and forth on weekends. Details were not highlighted when this move might happen. More information will be given as soon as it is known.
South Africans may return from overseas
People who were overseas may now return. However, they must remain in quarantine for 14 days.
No visits to family members and friends
Social visits are still prohibited.
Beaches, parks stay closed
Anywhere people come together, such as beaches, parks, casinos, theaters, movie theaters and so on.
