A video has surfaced online and published by Faizel Patel, EWN Journalist. In the video, he shows how residents in Mamelodi have illegally connected their electricity so they pay no bills to Eskom.

“This is where we are losing millions of revenue, millions and millions of RAND’s every month, this is where it’s happening,” says Faizel Patel.

Patel then goes on to address that the cables being used to hook up the buildings are those “stolen daily, from our electricity network”

He mentions in the video that violence can break out when they remove the cables as they refuse to pay, Also there are people who can afford to pay but refuse to pay.

Looking at the published video it’s clear to see that the connections are not safe and could cause major fires or electrocution in the area.

South African Police service attended the township while the cables were removed, to prevent violence and keep the peace.
