Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa is currently in the midst of what some may describe as a nightmare. He has the entire nation’s weight on his shoulders alongside fighting a battle against coronavirus and now corrupt ANC officials.
In today’s media briefing the President sounded tired yet serious on battling the corruption within the ANC.
The echo of angry South African citizens remains on Social Media, the coronavirus pandemic has been tough on everyone. As the months went on South African’s were presented with more and more corruption.
Ramaphosa has said that those in ANC leadership or legislative positions must step down if they are formally charged with corruption or other serious crimes.
If a member is accused of corruption or serious crimes they will be summoned to the integrity commission where they “must” explain their reasons. If the reason fails to satisfy the commission the President has said they “may” be suspended.
Convicted members of the ANC will have to resign and face disciplinary action which is in line with the ANC constitution. The president did not make it clear what these guidelines are, neither did he say if they will face prison sentences.
Ramaphosa has said that he wants to restore the ANC’s integrity within South Africa and will put forward resources to carry out their mandate.
