A couple appeared in court in Ventersdorp, North West, on Thursday, after allegedly assaulting a policeman and calling him with the k-word.
Norma and Johan Bauer Master, 27 and 41 years old, respectively, were arrested on December 31 and charged with assault, crimen injuria, and theft.
“According to information at our disposal, police were called to a gas station in Krugersdorp where the accused became angry when they apparently refused to stand in a row at an automatic bank counter,” says Sabata Mokgwabone, North West police spokesman.
“The accused allegedly assaulted one of the police officers called to defuse the situation and took away his vehicle’s key. One of the accused also allegedly insulted the police officer and in the process used the k-word, ”says Mokgwabone.
The two were arrested with the help of street patrols, after which the keys of the Norma’s police vehicle were found.
Northwest Police Commissioner Sello Kwena said the two alleged behavior undermined the state’s authority and that it would not be tolerated. She condemned the events.
