NewsLiteSA previously reported earlier today of protestors taking to the street in retaliation to the murder of a Police Officer.
It has been confirmed that Stephano Nico Visagie, Aged 28 went to visit a friend in Lennertsville on Tuesday night, instead of returning home he opted to stay over for the night.
Previously Constable Visagie allegedly got into an altercation with the suspect which could be the reason for the retaliation.
Katlego Mogale, Spokesperson of the Hawks released a statement saying “The accused suspect had entered the house whilst the victim was asleep. He took a knife and attacked the members inside and stabbing Visagie in the chest”
After the attack, the suspect left the scene and was later arrested and charged with murder. He is due to appear at Keimoes Magistrate’s Court this Monday.
The residents of Keimoes and Upington took to the streets in retaliation to the murder and rioted as they discovered the attacker was foreign. It has now been confirmed by Mogale that the attacker was indeed a foreign national.
The foreign national attacker has sparked controversy in the area as citizens believe that foreigners have “more rights than South African citizens and fearless of the authorities”
Local residents also suffered arrests for public violence for the outbursts, 23 in total were arrested and 8 minors released.
