Queenstown have recently arrested 4 suspects, of the suspects three are men and one woman (Aged 33, 35, 30 and 30 year-old woman).
This seizure comes at a time where South Africa have recently offered amnesty to hand in unlicensed firearms without facing criminal charges, exempt only to weapons that are not registered in a crime. Newslite SA previously reported the amnesty here.
Vigilant Queenstown Police were driving through the vicinity when they decided to carry out a stop and search, the search revealed that the suspects were in possession of an unlicensed firearm, however it was no accompanied with ammunition. Once the firearm was discovered the Police were forced to make arrests.
All suspects have been charged with ‘possession of an unlicensed firearm’ and will attend Queenstown Magistrates’ Court this morning.
