Two men were remanded in custody today after appearing at Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court. They were accused of murder, robbery and two counts of rape.
The two suspects Mfundo Cele (27) and Kwanele Duncan Ndlela (24) on the 29th March 2020 have alleged to have murdered and raped Ngenzeni Zuma (74) alongside another 20-year old woman. The elderly woman’s body was found dead at her home in Pietermaritzburg, the woman had allegedly been strangled to death and raped before.
The Organised Crime Units were assigned to the investigation which led them to the two suspects, Mfundo Cele was arrested in Pietermaritzburg and Duncan Ndlela in Durban.
Another call had been made the same night and a case of rape against a 20-year old was opened, the investigation then linked the two existing suspects to the rape.
“The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the arrest and condemned the attack of an elderly woman which has brought severe anguish to the family and neighbours.” said Colonel Thembeka Mbele
