A tuck shop owner was viciously murdered in Makwassie on Monday the 16th March 2020 by Pogisho Mqahiwa (26) and his 16-year-old accomplice.

Mqahiwa has been arrested and remains in custody after his first court appearance yesterday.

The duo entered the shop in Makwassie demanding the owner give them a packet of cigarettes. The pair allegedly inflicted a stab wound to the neck of the shop owner, he was then left fighting for his life on the floor while they proceeded to take his phone and cash from the store.

The owner of the shop was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Police acted swiftly to the reports and within three hours they had managed to track down the suspects and they were both arrested. While the 16-year-old was in custody further investigation indicated that this was not his first robbery, linking him to another robbery a day prior.

The 26-year-old will remain in custody and reattend Makwassie Magistrates’ Court this Wednesday (25th March 2020). The minor has been processed under the Child Justice Act, 2008 (Act No. 75 of 2008) and is expected to attend Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
