A minor girl from Israel was allegedly raped during an armed robbery in which tourists were robbed in a rental house, north of Phalaborwa, in Limpopo.
The robbery has been condemned from several places, especially in light of the fact that crime against tourists is damaging the South African tourism industry.
Three robbers, two of whom had firearms, struck the house in Silonque Nature Reserve on Thursday and detained nine foreigners, a police statement said.
The robbers got away in a stolen Mercedes-Benz with cash, cell phones, laptops, and jewelry. The abandoned car was later found 10 km down the road in the bushes.
According to sources who were at the scene of the robbery on Thursday night, the robbers took the underage girl to a separate room where she was allegedly raped.
Police spokesman Vish Naidoo says no rape charges have been brought in connection with the incident, which is why he won’t comment on the allegations.
Sources say the girl was taken to a Phalaborwa hospital.
“The girl’s mother was only concerned about the pills (PEP) which, after exposure to HIV / Aids, reduced the chance of the virus catching on. There was also no female doctor on duty, and she did not want her daughter to be examined by a man. They just wanted to leave, ”said the source.
The girl and her mother went to Johannesburg the next day from where they left the country.
Willem Botha, of the AfriForum neighborhood watch in Phalaborwa, says the neighborhood watch suspects it was the same group of robbers who also struck in the area on Saturday.
Since this article, a correction was stated by the family and the South African police.
