Tires were burned in Myaxhale Street as protestors went to the street. The protest was led by the South African National Civic Organization (SANCO).
Many streets were closed to traffic for a while. Early morning members of the Public Order Police unit extinguished the fire on Myaxale Street.
People were warned to avoid the Kwanonqaba area. The Eyethu and Aslak clinic would remain closed on Thursday, but the Alma and D’Almeida clinic was later opened.
The protesters are dissatisfied, among other things, about the electricity tariffs and the municipality’s policy on the needy.
Thursday’s approved march was the third this week in Mossel Bay. On Wednesday, the municipal workers’ union Samwu held a march on better salaries and on Tuesday, New Rest community members protested over housing.
