A multi-disciplinary team involving Hawks, Transnet, SAPS and Security have made a successful arrest in Kendall, Mpumalanga on Monday. This is a small step against diesel theft, but one less criminal out there.
The first indication of the theft occurring was when a pressure drop had been discovered on the line. If there is a hole for diesel extraction the pressure levels will drop significantly.
The SAPS Airwing team was assembled to discover what had caused the drop. While carrying out their investigations they discovered a suspiciously newly built “tin house”, to their surprise it is where the pipe runs through.
Taking the investigation further they entered the property to find that their suspicion was correct, there was a hole in the pipe which was causing the pressure drop. Alongside the hole in the pipe was a generator and eight bousers used to extract the diesel.
The security guard working in the area was able to identify the man involved with the theft, the suspect was later arrested.
A 28-year-old man was due to appear at Ogies Magistrates Court today facing theft charges.
