South African Airways has decided to now halt regional flights, this comes after they suspended all international flights.
The decision came after President Ramaphosa implemented the travel ban to further prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country. Previously South African’s were able to travel to regional countries, this has now stopped if citizens try and use SAA.
The airline has said that the flight suspension will be active until the 31st May 2020.
The airline has not mentioned if this date can change based on the situation in South Africa, it however goes without saying that if the spread worsens these dates will most likely change in the future.
“SAA is a network carrier, which means that a significant part of the regional bookings demand is fed by the passengers that travel to or from the international destinations. Therefore, the suspension of the international flights has resulted in the airline not being able to operate its normal network.”
“This resulted in operation of regional flights not being commercially viable anymore,” said SAA
The domestic routes that the Airline provide between Johannesburg and Cape Town will remain active.
