A Rietvale man appeared in court Wednesday after the rape and murder of his mother.
The 36-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly raping and strangling his 51-year-old mother.
According to Brig. Provincial police spokesman Mohale Ramatseba, the man and his mother were drinking under a tree in Rietvale on Sunday evening before the alleged rape and strangulation.
“While the suspect was raping his mother, a passerby saw it happening and raised an alarm.”
Ramatseba says police were called, but by the time the woman arrived, she was already dead. According to the post-mortem, the mother was strangled.
The man appeared on Wednesday on a charge of rape and murder in the local magistrate’s court.
