Onke Jilingisi (29), a security guard at a shop in the Epping industrial area in Cape Town, appeared in the Goodwoord Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with a transit robbery.
Jilingisi was arrested after a transit robbery on Friday night.
Zinzi Hani, spokesperson for the national directorate for priority crime investigations (the Hawks), said the driver of the G4S vehicle and a colleague picked up cash at a local shop on Fisher Avenue in Epping. “They were on their way back to the armored vehicle when two unknown men suddenly approached them and aimed a firearm at them. The suspects took one of the officers’ firearms from him and they then fled the scene in a double cabin bakkie with an unknown amount of cash. The hijacked bakkie was later found abandoned in an open field near Langa train station. ”
The Hawks’ investigation indicated that Jilingisi was a security guard at the store in question. He was linked to the robbery during the preliminary investigation and was arrested.
“The case has been postponed until September 2 for the application for bail.”
