The National Sea Rescue Institute were going about their normal duties on Wednesday, 1st January 2020. At around 15:00 a pregnant lady arrived at the base reporting that she was having contractions.
The NSRI houses talented workers that have a wide variety of skills, luckily for the pregnant lady, Tammy Pasensie (ECP paramedic student) and a 4th year medical student were on standby.
After 40 minutes of the lady entering the base she had successfully delivered a healthy baby boy and was later transferred to the hospital in a Netcare 911 ambulance.
Both mother and son are reporting to be doing well and no complications occurred.
