Parents, learners and teachers can look forward to two more breaks before the schools close slightly later than planned for the December holidays.
The Department of Basic Education this week posted the amended school calendar for the rest of the year in the Government Gazette. According to this, learners will get two more school holidays this December, although one is nothing more than a long weekend.
Schools reopened across the country after almost three months on Monday.
According to the document in the Government Gazette, learners will have a short holiday from August 8 to August 12. So the last day of school is Friday the 7th. The second holiday is from September 23 to October 8. Schools close on December 15 for the December holidays. It gives schools 173 days (37 weeks) to complete the rest of the curriculum.
It is still uncertain when the matric exam will start or when schools will reopen in January.
