The number of people who tested positive for Covid-19 in the Mediclinic Morningside in Sandton reached 90 on Friday.
The hospital closed its doors last week when it became known that 15 staff members and four patients had contracted the disease there.
According to dr. Stefan Smuts, Clinical Head of Mediclinic Southern Africa, has now tested positive for 11 patients, 46 doctors and 33 supported staff members.
All these staff members were placed in isolation.
Smuts said that the tested positive staff “is less than 10% of the approximately 1,000 staff and doctors working in the hospital”.
New patients will not be admitted to hospital until April 27.
“This will allow us to do a more detailed assessment and disinfect the hospital thoroughly in accordance with the regulations.”
Precautions were further tightened to protect patients as well as staff from the virus.
