The South African National Defence Force has today announced in a statement that one of their soldiers died in a road accident that occurred on the 21st April 2020.
Private Mzikayise Frankie Mngomezulu (48) was working alongside the South African Police Service during the COVID-19 national lockdown when he “met his untimely death”
The Department of Defence has said that the Private was stationed at a roadblock on the N12 (Johannesburg) when a truck lost control and then overturned and unfortunately landed on the soldier resulting in his death.
With one death confirmed, the Department of Defence has said that other SAPS members were injured. At this stage, no further details have been released of their condition.
The soldier will leave behind his wife and three children, more information regarding the burial will be released at a later date.
