SA Lockdown: Stay home, no alcohol sales, no walks with your dogs

Police Minister Bheki Cele addressed the country on Wednesday.

Minister Cele said that movie theaters, shopping malls, taxi ranks, bus and train stations will be closed. Restaurants will be closed as well. So there is no reason to be on the street or moving around.

The minister also said that no dog will be walked. If you really want your dog to walk, walk around your house with your dog the minister said.

It would be illegal to buy or move liquor. You will drink at your home if you have drinks. 

You will be sentenced to six months or fined if you break the regulations. Two people have already been arrested and charged with attempted murder for failing to heed instructions not to walk. This law will be strictly enforced.

The minister says that alcohol is a cause of road accidents and people who drink hit each other with objects when they are drunk. We will also increase our units against domestic violence and violence against women and children. Victims can call us on 0800 150 150 . Police will respond.

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said that all long distance train services will be stopped. Shosoloza services, Premier train services and the Prasa Blue Train have already been suspended. Rovos Rail will also stop. All shuttle services will be stopped. All Metrorail and Gautrain services are affected.

Sifa-funded minibuses get a three-month installment holiday. 

Taxis will only be able to transport essential services staff; daily from 05:00-09:00 and again from 16:00-20:00. Precautions against the virus should be taken during each ride. The government will help wherever possible.
