The Rustenburg police station in North West was temporarily closed after an officer tested positive for Covid-19.

“Rustenburg police station is closed so it can be disinfected,” said Brig. Police spokesman Sabata Mokwabone said. “The community service center will be available in a mobile unit outside the station.”

Mokgwabone said residents can call 082 496 9634.

It is the second police station in the Rustenburg area closed this week. Sun City police station was closed earlier after a positive Covid-19 case.

The local municipality also announced on Thursday that the traffic department was closed until further notice after an employee tested positive. “After routine testing, one positive case was identified. The employee concerned receives support through the municipality’s occupational health and safety office, ”said spokesman David Magae.

The ANC Women’s League in the North West said it would ask the national and provincial Covid-19 Governing Council to re-place Rustenburg and Matlosana at risk level 4 of the seclusion guidelines due to the increasing cases of Covid-19 in the two municipalities.
