Over the past four days, North West has received another 449 new Covid-19 cases, the largest increase to date in such a short period.
According to the provincial health department, the province now has 1,097 cases. Five people have already died of the virus and 152 have recovered.
Rustenburg is still the focal point of the disease in the North West, with a total of 653 cases. The Matlosana municipality in the Klerksdorp area has the second most cases (262) in the North West.
Madoda Sambatha, the MEC for health in the North West, said last week that his department wants to make a proposal at provincial and national level that Rustenburg and Klerksdorp move back to level 4 restrictions because of the high incidence of cases there. 1.6% of all Covid cases in the country are in the North West.
