While the personal care industry is rejoicing because it is allowed to do business again after about three months, restaurants that want to serve dinner are still waiting for regulations on it.
Wendy Alberts, chief executive of the Restaurant Association of South Africa (Rasa), said they were informed that efforts were being made to finalize the regulations.
Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa announced Wednesday night that more industries will be allowed to resume their operations in the future. Places such as casinos, hair salons, hotels and guest houses are now also allowed to reopen.
On Friday, the regulations for the personal care services industry were announced in the Government Gazette , which means that they may reopen under strict conditions.
However, the regulations for restaurants have still not been announced and there is no indication of when this can be expected. At this stage, therefore, meals may still only be delivered or collected at dining places.
Several restaurants have already closed their doors permanently due to the ban and there are fears that many others will have to do the same.
Alberts said the industry hopes to open its doors this week.
