DNA tests found the remains of a child found in Malabar in Port Elizabeth last month are those of little Recolin Keagan Witbooi, an eight-year-old boy who went missing in Gelvandale more than three months ago.
Recolin was last seen alive on July 6 this year when he played with friends in Uranus Street. After he did not show up at home, he was reported missing.
Due to decomposition, DNA tests had to be used to determine the identity of the body, Col. Police spokesman Priscilla Naidu said.
“Due to the advanced dissolution, the result of the post-mortem is indicated as ‘unconfirmed’.”
Naidu said police are currently investigating a death sentence. It will be handled that way unless new information about Recolin’s disappearance and death is revealed.
Police have called on anyone with information to investigate the investigating officer. Edman Mandeka, call 078 370 9785 or 041 402 2018, or call the Police Stop Crime Number on 08600 10111.
