A suspected rapist escaped during his first court appearance in Zwelitsha in the Eastern Cape.
According to police, Mzuxolile Skolpati, 21, ran out of the courthouse on Monday while he was taken to the courtroom.
He was arrested on Sunday and would appear on Monday on a charge of rape, says Police spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa.
Mawisa says a response unit was formed shortly after Skolpati’s escape, but their search has yet to yield.
Skolpati is from the Mxhalanga settlement just outside King William’s Town. Police are asking the community to come forward with information if they know where Skolpati is hiding.
