President Ramaphosa leads by example donating his salary, others follow in his steps

Today, Political leaders have followed the example that President Ramaphosa has set by donating a third of his salary to the Solidarity Fund.

Thursday night South African’s tuned in to the national address by the President where he announced that the lockdown will continue until the end of April. During his speech, he declared that he will donate a third of his cabinets salary and his own to the Solidarity fund.

Many have started to follow the example in a bid to grow the funds to support struggling businesses during the national disaster.

Julies Malema of the EFF Party released a statement to say that he and the rest of the party will donate a third of their salaries.

“As part of our contribution to the fight against COVID-19, all EFF Public Representatives, inclusive of Members of Parliament, Members of Provincial Legislatures, and Councillors will contribute a third of our monthly salaries to the COVID-19 Solidarity Fund.” said Malema

Myself, the City Manager & GCFO of the City of Ekurhuleni will be donating 33% of our salaries to the Solidarity Fund for the next 3 months. MMC’s 25%, Speaker 20%, Chief Whip 15%
