President Ramaphosa addressed South Africans on Thursday night.

Ramaphosa thanked everyone personally and says South Africans are people who stand together and unite in times of great crisis.

President Ramaphosa says it’s been two weeks since the restriction. He says all citizens are suffering. Children do not go to school and the economy has stopped.

The president says he consulted with the leaders of all the political parties today. People work across party political boundaries to fight the fear of the virus.

What is happening worldwide is simply overwhelming. The state of restriction was the right step to take.

There are now 1 934 people who tested positive in South Africa.

The fight against the virus is far from over. We are only at the beginning of a monumental struggle that requires all our efforts the President says.

Ramaphosa calls for people to be patient longer so that thousands more lives will be saved.

The restriction is extended by another two weeks and will last until the end of April.
