The European Union (EU) and UK negotiators have reached a preliminary Brexit agreement, but it still needs the support of EU member states, as well as the various parliaments.
Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, announced in a tweet that an agreement had been reached.
“It is a fair and balanced agreement for the EU and the UK and is a testament to our commitment to finding solutions,” Juncker tweeted.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also tweeted that a “great new deal” had been reached. He asked British lawmakers to sign it in a special session on Saturday.
Juncker said he would suggest that the 27 EU member states approve the agreement later today.
