The suspected killer of Precious Ramabulana, 21, a Limpopo student who was stabbed more than 60 times last week, will spend Christmas behind bars.
Aubrey Manaka, 28, appeared briefly on Monday morning in Morebeng Magistrate’s Court in the Botlokwa area on a charge of murder.
A bloodshot knife and blood-soaked clothes were apparently found from him. Police also seized a cellphone at Manaka, which apparently belonged to Ramabulana.
Ramabulana’s murder sent shockwaves across the country.
Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa visited her grieving family in Nzhelele outside Louis Trichardt on Sunday.
Ramabulana was stabbed more than 60 times in a room she rented in a house, not far from the Ramokgopha campus of Capricorn TVET College in Botlokwa.
She did a business management course at Capricorn TVET College.
She was buried in Nzhelele on Friday.
The man arrested for the murder of Precious Ramabulana, a Limpopo student, is believed to be facing a charge of a sexual nature, pres. Cyril Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa said in the Twitter video that it was a “national disgrace” that a young woman with a promising future had been terminated by a man who “slaughtered her like an animal.” He says the government will intensify its campaign on violence against women.
“As men, it seems that we have declared a full-scale war against the women of South Africa,” Ramaphosa says.
