A police sergeant and his accomplice appeared in the Lichtenburg, North West Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of house robbery.

Olebogeng Selemela, 35, and Edward Tekane, 24, were arrested on Thursday after allegedly robbing a home.

“It is alleged that the complainant woke up at night to a strange noise on the roof of his house. When the complainant investigated, the intruder indicated that he was from the police and ordered the complainant to open the door, ”says Sabata Mokgwabone, North West police spokesman.

“When the complainant opened the door, he saw the policeman and another man. The two allegedly demanded money from the complainant, who told them he had no money. The accused then allegedly seized the complainant’s driver’s license and a set of keys before fleeing the scene. “

Mokgwabone said police later arrested the suspects and found other stolen property.

The suspects were each released on R500 bail and will appear in court again on Monday, July 6.
