A 49-year-old police officer at Athlone police station tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday.
He started to feel sick this week and suspected that it was allergies. However, Thursday his condition worsened and were asked to go to the doctor.
He is currently in isolation at his home where he lives alone.
There is currently a provincial task force at the police station where they are disinfecting it and the vehicles he was driving.
Other police officers who were in contact with him will now also be contacted and tested.
Until their results are known, they will remain in isolation.
The police officer was part of a group of police officers who were in contact last week with people who tested positive for Covid-19 in the Athlone area.
