Police Minister Bheki Cele will be one of several mourners on Sunday who pay their last tribute to a policeman who died on duty.
Free State police confirmed in a statement Saturday that Cele will be at the burial service of the Sgt.
Lloyd Poonyane will attend.
Poonyane, 41, was fatally wounded last Saturday night in Orkney, North West, when he and Sergeant. Lydia Tladi, 45, responded to complaints in the Vierfontein area.
Poonyane died after sustaining a gunshot wound to his chest. Tladi was wounded in her leg.
Tribute is paid to Poonyane in his native village of Viljoenskroon on Sunday.
Two suspects who fled with the members’ service pistols and ammunition were arrested in Soweto and Embalenhle in Secunda on Sunday evening.
According to Brig. Provincial spokesperson Motantsi Makhele said Poonyane was buried at the Mphatlalatsane School in Rammulotsi in Viljoenskroon at about 08:00 on Sunday.
