Two women have been arrested for drug trafficking huge quantities of dagga in Nelspruit last Friday. The successful haul has estimated to be worth over R950,000 and the weight came in at a whopping 412kgs.
Officers were stationed on the N4 road due to a large amount of illegal activity being reported on that strip of road, to combat the crime they have increased Police presence in the area.
Clarencia Carlos Mariquele (36) and Alice Mnisi (48) were traveling along the N4 in their Gold Opel Bakkie when Police officers stopped them. Officers let the women know that they were going to start a search of the vehicle and told them why the search was taking place.
Today was not a lucky day for the women, Police found the huge haul of drugs stashed in the vehicle and arrested them immediately. The dagga was seized and the women remained in custody.
The pair appeared in Barberton Magistrate’s court on the 16th March 2020 and faced “Dealing in Drugs” charges, they have now been remanded in custody awaiting their next appearance on the 19th March 2020.
“We have intensified our efforts to get rid of criminal activities, including drug trafficking wherein some of these drugs are smuggled into the country through the borders. I have instructed all stations that are neighbouring borders to be vigilant. We therefore urge the public to work together with us in addressing drug trafficking by supplying us with valuable information in this regard, ” said General Zuma.
