Pick N Pay has now announced that it will dedicate one hour every Wednesday for customers over the age of 65.

From the 18th March 2020 Pick N Pay will open the doors between 7 am – 8 am to customers that can provide a valid ID card showing that they are over 65. Any customers that try and enter the stores during this period that are not 65+ will be refused entry.

This decision is made after the Coronavirus threat is increasing daily, the elderly population are put into the ‘high risk’ category for the virus and allowing them time to shop alone lowers their risk of infection.

The Retail Executive John Bradshaw listened to the online community and put measures in place to make this hour period a reality.

“A special shopping hour for pensioners was a great suggestion by our online community and we very quickly worked with our stores to make this a reality,”

“All our actions are focused on supporting the well-being of our customers. We know that the Coronavirus is more of a threat to older people, and it is thus especially important that our older customers limit the number of times they are in busy spaces as much as possible. This dedicated shopping hour for our elderly customers will give them exclusive use of the store.”
