Operators transporting people between provinces are apparently being forced to pull off the road due to the new curfew rule.

According to Bonginkosi Madikizela, MEC for Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape, he is overwhelmed by calls from frustrated long-distance transport companies that are apparently being forced to pull off the road since the latest curfew rule was introduced last week.

According to this evening clock rule, everyone must stay home from 21:00 to 04:00, except those who are going to work, return from work or urgently need medical help.

Madikizela says no mention is made in the guidelines that law enforcement officers should prevent long-distance transport services in terms of the latest curfew rule as was the case at level 4 of the restriction.

“People may travel between provinces in accordance with the level 3 regulations, provided they have the necessary permits.”

Madikizela says these operators may carry a maximum of 70% of the allowable number of passengers.
