A man was killed and six others injured – three of them children – after three vehicles were involved in an accident on Friday night on the R23 near Heidelberg, Gauteng.
ER24 spokeswoman Russel Meiring said paramedics of the emergency service were among the many emergency workers who were on the scene around 9 p.m.
“Upon closer examination, paramedics found the body of a man, presumably in his 20s, along the way. The man had already died of his wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene. “
Six other people, three of them children, were investigated at the scene. “One man sustained multiple injuries and was in critical condition, while the other patients sustained mild to moderate injuries.”
The severely injured man was taken to a private hospital by air ambulance, while the other patients with ambulances were taken away for further treatment.
One of the cars allegedly plowed into two other vehicles that stopped along the road, Meiring said.
