“My oldest son is not a rapist, he made a mistake,” says Chantal crying to television presenter Chriselda Lewis, who is interviewing.
Ninow was sentenced to life in prison on October 17 after raping a seven-year-old girl in the bathroom of a Dros restaurant in Pretoria last year.
Chantal told Lewis she felt sorry for the girl and her parents and admitted if it was her daughter she would have been outraged.
“I know ‘sorry’ is not enough, but there is nothing else I can say. . . “
However, the Twitter outrage that Chantal called the rape a “mistake” ended in the form of a complaint with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa.
SABC spokesperson Vuyo Mthembu has not been informed of such a complaint on Twitter. The SABC’s comments, which follow on Tuesday, will be updated.
Users are upset that the public broadcaster did the interview and then broadcast it. They are also angry with Lewis, who led the interview.
