A municipal worker is still in the hospital after being shot four times last week while repairing a fire hydrant in Nyanga.

Gregory Forgus, who works for the Cape Town Metro fire and rescue services, was on leave and returned to work last Monday.

He and his colleagues were attacked in Phambaniso Street.

The attackers wanted to hijack the minibus they were driving.

Forgus was outside the vehicle and four of his colleagues inside when the attackers approached them and started firing.

When the shots hit, three of them jumped out of the vehicle.

The fourth worker sat in the front passenger seat and Forgus jumped in on the driver’s side, after which he was shot through the door of the minibus.

Despite his wounds, he was able to drive to the nearest police station for help.

Meanwhile, one of the workers called the emergency services.

Forgus returned to the scene and was taken to hospital, Carelse says.

The worker in the minibus sustained a bruise to his thigh and the other workers were unharmed.

Police spokesperson Siyabulela Malo said they were investigating a murder case. The four suspects fled in their own vehicle. No one has been arrested yet.
