A man has been given life imprisonment after he was caught in the act raping his landlord’s daughter, aged 14.
The victim arrived home from school and went outside to wash her uniform. The girl did not return from cleaning her uniform which aroused suspicion for the mother so she went to investigate, says Colonel Thembeka Mbele.
In the distance, she heard screaming from another room situated on her premises. When she arrived she was ‘shattered’ to be witnessing one of her tenants raping her 14-year-old daughter.
Immediately the mother pulled her daughter away to safety and locked the suspect in the room. While Petros Lungu (50) was locked in the room she called the Police.
The Empangeni Police arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect, the case was later transferred to the Child Protection and Offences Unit.
The statement from the girl was summarised – “He locked the door, overpowered and raped her. She attempted to fight him off however he overpowered her. She was relieved when she saw her mother entering the room because she knew it was all over and she was safe. “
Petros Lungu attended Empangeni Regional Court on the 29th of January 2020 and was found guilty of his crimes and was given a life imprisonment sentence.
KZN Police Commissioner Ltnt General Khombinkosi Jula has said “Children are very trusting and it’s very disturbing when the people they trust turn out to be the evil ones. The young lady trusted the accused and didn’t think one day he would turn against her and abuse her…”
