A young mother and her two children burnt to death in their shelter outside the Strand in the Western Cape on Thursday night.
Jermaine Carelse, a spokesman for the Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, released a statement that the incident happened in the Nomzamo informal settlement.
According to Carelse, emergency services were called to a fire in Nombula Street late last night. Upon arrival, there was no sign of the residents of the shelter.
The fire was extinguished at 00:10 after which the bodies of a 22-year-old woman and her two children were found in the rubble. The children were two and six years old, respectively.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
