More than 3000 COVID-19 cases confirmed on Thursday

There are currently 58,568 cumulative cases in the country, the Department of Health announced Thursday afternoon. This is 3,147 more cases than Wednesday. 

63.9% of all cases are in the Western Cape, followed by Gauteng with 13.6% and the Eastern Cape with 13.4%.

The death rate was not yet known by early Thursday evening. A total of 33 252 people have already recovered from the virus, which amounts to 56% of those who have already tested positive. This percentage has increased systematically over the past week.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement that South Africa had already conducted more than 1 million Covid 19 tests by Thursday, of which almost 30,000 had been performed in the past 24 hours.

Mkhize boasted that South Africa is one of the first countries to do Covid-19 mass testing and tracking, and thanked laboratory workers for their hard work in eradicating the bottleneck of overdue testing and the time it takes. to reduce tests.
