The Western Cape government on Monday assured it that it was ready to catch the coronavirus.
NewsliteSA earlier reported that Cyril Ramaphosa has instructed South Africans to be brought back from South Africa from Wuhan to China.
Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape MEC for Health, says they realize people are anxious, but she has urged the public to stay calm and follow the basic guidelines.
“The department has world-class systems and facilities that have been tried in the past, and we do everything possible to ensure that we are prepared for any scenario,” she said.
According to her, the public should be confident in the department’s capabilities and not share false or misleading information.
“We have created platforms where they can access official information,” Mbombo said.
“South Africa currently has no confirmed cases. However, we are still watching the situation and will adjust as needed. This includes regular assessments.
“We have a 72-hour response plan if the first confirmed case is reported, and we are ready to respond, if needed.”
